A QR code is generated in real-time when the holder of an identity card presents it to a third party, which may be external to the organisation that issued the identity card. The third-party can scan the QR code using an ORGiD scanner, and check whether the identity card is (1) current, and (2) matches the card that was scanned.

The ORGiD service is highly available and is designed to support thousands of requests per second to verify (or deny) a request. The service cannot be spoofed and is fully encrypted to prevent tampering.
